40 in 2009
It's amazing how a bonding weekend (originally for 5 sisters) metamorphosed into a full-blown celebration of our 40th year in Sigma Delta & Upsilon. It's amazing that 20 of the 24 Batch '69 in North America came for the reunion, and Willy Fernandez & Girlie Antonio from Manila.
Batch 69 does not need any props to stand out in a group (bragging right?), but we decided to wear red anyway, to signify our Ruby/40th Anniversary. You can see the sea of red stands-outs in the accompanying pictures.
We had a crowd of 60 at the June 6 party, held at the luxurious Metropolitan at Pentagon City in Arlington, VA. It was graced by the presence of Philippine Ambassador and Upsilonian ('66) Mr. & Mrs. Willy Gaa. Many of the Northeast & Southeast brods and sisters drove in to join the festivities. Some came from California, and even Manila (they were in the U.S. on vacation). It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying themselves and catching up on happenings since the last parting.
The food was cooked and lovingly prepared by the sisters; the brods were very helpful in the bar & party room set-up. Alice S. Tanoue, our resident hostess, put together a full-of-memories power point presentation complete with animated graphics and music from the late 1960's.
There was dancing; there was great food galore; there were plentiful drinks; there was camaraderie; friendships reinforced. It was an event that had a life of its own - we couldn't have planned it better.
We thank those who celebrated with us. We wish the rest of you could have been there, too, to bask in that special closeness that truly binds members of Upsilon Sigma Phi and Sigma Delta Phi.

P.S. The main Batch 69 celebration of our 40th Anniversary will be held in Manila this coming October. Plan to attend.
