We Gather Light To Scatter
Chibu pointed out that the Upsilon must truly create a strong bond between brods because, even after 40 years, we see brods getting together for fellowships and working on projects that help other members of the fraternity.  He saluted the efforts of the SoCal brods and Sigma Delta sisters in continuing to manage the SoCal Scholarship program which was responsible in helping Fellow Third Bagro finish law school.  In return, Third Bagro brought honor to the Upsilon Sigma Phi by being the Chairman of the U.P. Student Council and finishing 8th  in the recently concluded Bar Exams.
Mon Abad emphasized the value of character and contribution to the fraternity.  He talked about how one’s standing in the fraternity depended largely on one’s credibility and character and one’s contribution to the fraternity.  He cited examples of how older brods had helped him advance in his career and how he had returned the favor to help other brods.  His attitude towards contributing to the
A fellowship to welcome Chibu Lagman ’63, Beato Sason ’63, Mon Abad ’66, and Blamar Gonzales ’66 was held at my house on Saturday, April 3, 2010.  It has been a tradition in SoCal that when we host visiting brods, we ask them to talk briefly about what the role of the fraternity has been in their lives after U.P.
fraternity could be summed up by this statement: “If I don’t help this brod now, I might miss the chance of extending him a hand.” It was a wonderful fellowship, complete with good food and wine, and easy banter between our speakers and the audience.  We are grateful  to
Chibu and Mon who gave their talks, and hope that next time, Beato would be feeling better so that we could hear from his experiences.
